To begin, could you please describe your entry to the property industry and the journey you have taken to your current position.

My first taste of the property industry was in my 3rd year of Uni where I worked for Alexander Reece Thomson. I then joined Colliers at a grad in their valuation department and after around a year joined Stephen Kane & Company. I felt my IT knowledge was lacking so after I got my RICS qualifications I went to City University to do a Masters in IT. After spending some time in the IT industry I decided I wanted to come back to property and blend my skills and experience and became a Director of KEL (valuation software) from where I was head hunted to help bring Datscha over to the UK from Sweden.

Thanks for that Olly, it certainly sounds like your IT experience has helped you in the property industry. Here are a few quick fire questions for you to answer for us:

In your opinion, what is an important development or theme that will shape the future of the property industry?

‘Technology’

Before a meeting I always…

‘Prepare’

What advice would you give to a young person starting their career in the industry?

Embrace change

To show young people that a mistake is not the end of the world, if you have made a mistake in your career, what did you learn from it?

have learnt many things from mistakes in my careers – one would be to think before responding or acting

How would you describe the current property industry in three words?

Demanding, Interesting and Sociable
